Creating a New Organization

There are many fields available to you when setting up a new organization. Many of these fields do not require you to complete them immediately. Depending on your implementation plan, you might want to set up an organization quickly so you can begin data entry. If so, you can go back later and complete the rest of the fields in the organization setup.

The most important fields are the book information fields. These fields set up your organization so that the application can properly depreciate its assets.

Important! If your organization uses short fiscal years, make sure you complete the Short Years tab before you calculate depreciation.

Before creating your first organization, make sure you read Understanding Organizations.

Before you begin the steps outlined below, you must close any currently open organization.

Note: When no companies or organizations are open, the menus and windows display the word Company, rather than the word Organization.

To create a new organization
  1. Select File/New Company from the menu bar. The Entity Type window appears.
  2. Select "Government or Nonprofit Organization," then click the Continue button. The New Organization window appears.
  3. Complete the New Organization window, then click OK. The new organization is opened showing the Asset List, so you can begin adding assets.
